Evidence of large investment firms recommending stocks they’re shorting?

Everyone says large firms like Goldman Sachs recommend stocks they’re actually shorting. To do such a thing makes sense, but where is the evidence? When have such firms been caught with their pants down saying one thing and doing another? I know there have been major lawsuits made in the past with exactly this type of behavior, but it’s spoken about online like it’s the industry standard.

Additionally, does “sell the news” connotate selling the news that helps your position, even if it’s recommending the opposite of your position?
