Things aren't always rosy – between 1929 and 2019, the US market had:
negative 1 year returns 30% of the time
negative 5 treat returns 21% of the time
negative 10 year returns 15% of the time
I don't mean that you should pick stocks and try to time the market, but maybe allocate certain amounts to sub sector ETFs? (A la thematic investing)?
